Last Tuesday we were asked to give a short introduction into ‘Big Data’ during a Media Werkgroep (MWG) meeting in the Coolbrand House in Amsterdam. About 150 media professionals gathered to hear more about this new trend that everyone now seems to be talking about. Why now?
Because 90% of all data in the world was created in the last 2 years. That’s right, two years. Data is becoming bigger in terms of size, speed and variety. Social media generates an enormous part of that data, but the digitalization of many archives and new gadgets and hardware are also to blame. Companies like Twitter and Google are implementing new database models to keep up with these intense reformations, and in the future maybe we all should. Because Big Data will enable companies to build better, customized and personalized products for their clients. Smart systems that will make your day to day life easier.
